Are people supposed to have sweet 16 parties?
I don’t like that show because it makes teenagers feel bad. I didn’t have a sweet 16 party. I didn’t even get a new car. My “new car” was my family’s 3 year old mini van, and even then, it still wasn’t technically mine. These girls are rich spoiled brats. Most of the people that show up to the parties don’t even know them. Some guests have admitted this on the show. Plus, you know in a month the girl is going to wreck that fancy car mommy and daddy bought her, and they’ll turn around and buy her another one. Looking at that show, sometimes I wonder if those are even real people or if MTV (I think it is MTV, or is it VH1?) just set the whole thing up. (Some of those other shows… like the boyfriend deciding whether or not he wants to keep dating his old girlfriend whom his parents hate or date one of the new girls his parents picked out looks soooo fake.) If the show makes you feel bad, turn the channel. No use feeling horrible about yourself because of some garbage on TV.
I always did have a birthday party but it never cost over maybe 50 to 100 dollars! I think that no one has a party that cost thousands of dollars! Make a list of what you do have and try to appreciate all that you do have. My boyfriend is the oldest of 13 kids and the family was so large that he never even had a birthday cake! But he was motivated and worked and paid his own way and became a lawyer! You should become motivated and try to do better. Poverty should motivate people to work harder. You do have a computer and the Internet! Bye!
Well, I think because of the sweet 16 show that these parties are now becoming popular again. No, sweet 16 parties are not for rich girls. Sure rich girls do have parties and spend a bunch of money but most girls, like my daughters friends, all do something different for their sweet 16. One girl just rented a room at the local bowling alley, decorated it with sweet 16 decorations from oriental trading. Another girl took five of her friends to a local indoor waterpark overnight. Some girls have their besties go out to dinner and then a sleepover. Some girls just have sleepovers and movie parties. Remember it is not about the money at all, it is about you and your friends and whatever you can afford to do, you will always have fun with your friends and make memories. I can’t explain why your parents don’t want to celebrate your birthday anymore. My daughter age 15 pretty much just plans things with her friends now. Just do your own thing for your birthdays. Spend it with your besties and
