Are Pearl Flutes any good?
Pearl Flutes have a good reputation in the flute world for being good instruments. If you’re going to invest in a good instrument, here are some suggestions: 1.) Get a flute with a SOLID SILVER headjoint. If possible, also get the body solid silver as well, if you can afford it. 2.) If it is possible to, try flutes with different wall thicknesses–that is how thick the wall of flute is. Thin is .014, thick is .016 or higher. Thickness has an affect on tone–thin walls tend to be brighter; thick tend to be dark. I prefer thick because I have a dark sound, but I like that I can still make it bright with a thick wall flute. 3.) Get open holes (you can get plugs and take them out gradually) 4.) I really should have put this at #1–BEFORE YOU BUY, TRY!!!! A good list of things to look for when trying a new flute is on the Altus flutes (another brand name) website: www.altusflutes.com. Other good brand names: Intermediate-advanced student flutes: Yamaha, some Gemeinhardts, Sonare, Trevor Jam
