The Council will award fellowships on a part-time basis to fellows wishing to combine their research training/research with domestic responsibilities. Part-time fellowships are awarded for a minimum 50 per cent time, and on the understanding that the approved programme of research training/research can be carried out effectively. In addition, the Council will consider applications for part-time fellowships for a number of its clinical schemes to allow fellows to combine research training with professional clinical responsibilities (but not for professional training e.g. higher specialist training for medics). Examples of individuals the Council might expect to have professional clinical responsibilities would be GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals. We would therefore consider extending fellowships to accommodate part-time working arrangements as long as we were assured that the research as detailed in the application would not be altered.
