Are Parliamentary Constituencies and Assembly Areas equivalent?
No, Parliamentary Constituencies and Assembly Areas are no longer equivalent. The 2008 Westminster Parliamentary Constituency boundaries were initially utilised for the 6th May 2010 General Election. The NINIS datasets have not been updated to the new 2008 Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies, but refer to the previous 1992 Westminster Parliamentary Constituency boundaries. The current Northern Ireland Assembly Areas remain equivalent to the 1992 Parliamentary Constituency boundaries. To ensure a distinction between the two sets of Parliamentary Constituency boundaries in use in Northern Ireland the 2008 and 1992 boundaries should be referred to as the Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies (WPCs) or the Assembly Areas (AAs) respectively.
