Are parents and families responsible for their childs psychiatry problem?
DHM: Youll have to separate it into major and minor psychiatry problems respectively. Family has got nothing to do with major psychiatry problems like schizophrenia and manic phase etc. in which the person is totally out of his senses. For minor neurotic problems like performance anxiety in a child, an over protected family can be held responsible. But dont blame them for this because they dont do it on purpose; it is the love that makes them do this. But parents should expose their child to the world otherwise he would be lacking the confidence that is essential to face the outer world in current times. The most painful is the conflicts between father and mother. My most important message regarding this is when parents train their child they should agree on matching points. E.g if a kid is watching TV and her mother says its time for prayers, go to mosque. The father says let him watch the TV hell go later. This should not happen instead father must reinforce.
