Are parasites contagious?
It depends on what it is. Sarcoptic Mange Hookworms roundworms coccidia giardia fleas (therefore tapeworm) ticks are all contagious. they’re also easily treatable. So don’t freak out. If you give your dog heartworm preventative it will take care of heartworms, roundworms and hookworms. Flea & tick preventative will keep them from getting tapeworm. Coccidia and Giardia are bacterial infections that cause diarrhea, they can be contagious if your dog eats poop or drinks contaminated water. They’re treatable with antibiotics. So basically if you take good care of your dog and keep them on preventatives like you should. Your pretty much in the clear. Oh, and sarcoptic mange is highly contagious, but if your brother’s puppy had it, you would know! All puppies have worms, so that’s probably all it is, it’s ok as long as your dog is on preventative.
