Are Parabens bad for my health?
Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as low-cost preservatives in the cosmetic industry to increase product shelf life. They can be found in, for example, shampoos, moisturizers, shaving gels, spray tanning solution and toothpaste. They are becoming increasingly controversial because they have potential to cause breast cancer due to their estrogenic activity. My advice: check labels, learn about the ingredients and avoid methylparaben (E number E218), ethylparaben (E214), propylparaben (E216), butylparaben, isobutylparaben, isopropylparaben, and benzylparaben. Remember, what we put onto our skin, gets easily absorbed into our bloodstream and gets distributed everywhere in the body.
