Are oysters & bay clams included in the Delaware Bay sampling?
The sampling of bivalves (e.g., clams) has been included in the work plan as an option. Samples will be collected pending the identification of additional funding. Comment • Recommend other popular recreational species such as porgy (scup), sea bass, and tautog. White Perch is another very important species. Consider adding carp to the list of estuarine/freshwater species to be sampled since body burdens of contaminants in carp can be high. The fish targeted should include those with a range of lipid contents. According to Table 1 under Task II, the list of species targeted for sampling in the Upper Tidal Passaic only includes crab. If possible, consider adding (1) other species that are caught by anglers in this area and (2) “other fish species of opportunity.” The species listed in the work plan include primarily those species that NJ currently has under advisory.
