Are Organic Strawberries Healthier?
September 29, 2010 Many people eat organic foods thinking they are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods. But are they really better for you? Most research has failed to find significant nutrient differences between organic and conventional fruits and vegetables. And when differences are detected, they are usually not enough to affect health. But according to a new study from Washington State University, there may be some good reasons to choose organic strawberries. Reporting in the peer-reviewed journal, PLoS One, researchers compared 13 organic and 13 conventional strawberry farms in California, where most strawberries in the U.S. are grown. They looked not only at the nutrients in three different varieties of strawberries, but also their taste as well as the quality of the soil.
