Are oil paintings better than acrylic paintings?

No. In fact, many savvy collectors prefer acrylics these days. Oil paint never truly dries and is fragile and prone to cracking, fading, and chipping. Modern acrylic paint can look just like oil paint—without any of oil’s drawbacks. Cured acrylic paint is more elastic than oil, which makes chipping or cracking a stretched painting unlikely. Acrylic paints generally have superior lightfastness, too, so they can be displayed in more areas of the home and look brighter longer. Finally, an acrylic painting is easier to clean than oil paintings. Often, they can simply be wiped with a damp cloth!
