Are nuts a healthier option to using butter and cream?
If eaten in small amounts, nuts can be an important part of a healthy diet. People who eat nuts regularly have a lower risk of heart disease. In cooking, nuts give texture and flavour. They are a healthier option to butter and cream. Ten grams of butter, for example, work out to 90 calories, whereas 10g of nuts would be around 50 calories. The choice of nuts and other ingredients in a dish often depends on the local produce. The cuisines of Karnataka and Goa feature cashew nuts as they are plentiful there, while in the north, you have cashews as well as poppy and melon seeds. In Kashmiri food, you’ll find walnuts, and in the coastal states’ cuisine, plenty of coconut.
