Are NTEP Certificates of Conformance recognized outside the U.S.?
The U.S. and Canada have signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for certain weighing devices. The U.S. NTEP of NCWM and Measurement Canada recognize each other’s type evaluation results for the following devices: • Electronic weight indicating elements (except those that are “software based” i.e. programmed by downloading parameters); • Electronic computing and non-computing bench, counter, floor and platform scales up to 1000 kg (2000 lb) capacity; • Weighing/load receiving elements with capacities up to 1000 kg (2000 lb); and • Mechanical scales with capacities not exceeding 10000 kg (20000 lb). • Retail Motor Fuel Dispensers Each party issues their own document upon successful completion of testing (either the NTEP Certificate of Conformance or the Canadian Notice of Approval.) In the U.S., an NTEP application, along with the appropriate fees, are required before the NTEP Certificate of Conformance is issued. Please click here to view the US/Canada Agreement.
