Are New Zealands All Blacks driving the rugby world crazy?
Mathieu Bastareaud, at the heart of an international rugby scandal after his assault allegations made in Wellington on June 21, has been hospitalised suffering from “serious psychological problems”. The 20-year-old cousin of Arsenal footballer William Gallas has been placed under medical supervision in an institution in the Paris area which is being kept secret. He will remain under observation for a fortnight after admitting to having lied when he said he was a victim of an aggressive street attack following France’s 14-10 defeat by the All Blacks. Lithium and electric shock treatment are probably what he’s in for. Poor man! Rather than focus on his serious mental ‘slip up’, I’m left wondering why New Zealand are a ‘magnet’ for this type of controversy. As a South African, I breathed a sign of relief that this time it was France and not us. Phew!
