Are neon tetras supposed to school with white cloud minnows?
It’s not unusual for multiple schools to join together and form a larger group. You still need at least 5 of each individual kind of fish though, or they will be very stressed. For example, you can’t put a neon, a wcmm, a cardinal, a glowlight, and a harlequin together and expect them to form a happy group. (They may group together out of desperation, but this is not natural and is not in their best interest.) However, you could put a group of (for example) 6 neons and 6 glowlights, and you would probably see the two schools grouping together. They are still associating themselves only with their own species, but they are “teaming up” with the other group for added security so to speak. Also, if you have to few of each fish, say only 3 of each, they will, again, group out of desperation. Anyways, wcmms and neons prefer different water temperatures. It would be best if you separated them. They probably went crazy because they didn’t have the security of a larger group like they were use
