Animals slaughtered in other ways, or slaughtered by non-muslims other than Jews or Christians are not permissible to eat. This is general rule, but as there is an exception in the case of animals slaughtered by followers of earlier divine religions, namely Jews and Christians, scholars are of the opinion that animals slaughtered nowadays in Western Countries using the method of electrical stunning before introducing a cut with a knife to allow the animal to bleed are also permissible to eat. This applies only to large animals. When it comes to chicken, these societies use a method which makes most of the birds die before they are actually slaughtered. Hence, it is far better to refrain from eating them. There is no mechanical method which is in use today to slaughter large animals such as sheep and cows by machine on a massive scale.
