Are Music Technology qualifications currently underused?
Interactive subjects such as Music Technology should be used to engage more pupils in music qualifications, says NCFE. The call follows the latest Ofsted report ‘Making More of Music’ which said that school music lessons are ‘inadequate’ and that Music Technology qualifications are currently underused. The report also outlined the importance of music in education – in approximately three quarters of the secondary schools visited, the impact of music on students’ personal development was good or outstanding. The Department for Children, Schools and Families has now made £332m available for music education up until 2011. David Grailey, Chief Executive at NCFE, said: “Music is an important element of learning. Teaching subjects such as music technology can actively engage more pupils and allow them to develop their creativity, social skills, ICT skills and confidence. “NCFE offers a number of music technology qualifications and increasingly, they are being implemented in schools, sixth fo
