Are MTA passengers permitted to stand on an MTA Commuter Bus?

0

(Return to top) Generally, no. Because our Commuter Buses travel at highway speeds, passengers must be seated for their own safety. If a particular bus that you wish to board has all its seats taken, you will be asked to wait for the next available bus. The MTA recognizes the inconvenience of being left behind, and we work hard to provide enough service to meet the demand. Standees are permitted only in emergency situations, such as if a bus should become disabled on a highway and the following bus stops to pick up its passengers. Also, standees are permitted on the last trip of the day, so as to avoid stranding our riders away from home. We’re sorry, but we do not classify as an “emergency” your need to get to your destination by a certain time in order to meet work responsibilities, child-care deadlines, etc.
