Are movies/TV based on works by Stephen King terrible?
Here’s the situation. I’ve heard this phrase muttered at least four times over the last two or three weeks. I don’t know if it’s because we’re getting closer to Halloween and the horror genre is on top of everyone’s mind, but the people love saying it. I don’t get it. It may be that the majority of King based movies are bad, it may not be I don’t know for sure, but hasn’t there been enough of the good stuff to override a blanket statement such as “All King movies are bad?” There are some truly terrible King movies. I’ve seen them. I own them. I don’t know why, I just do. Movies like The Tommyknockers, Apt Pupil., Maximum Overdrive and The Langoliers make the underside of a pile of horse crap smell like rose tinted car freshener. For everyone of those, however, you have a Shining, Misery, Stand By Me or The Mist. So why do people still insist on this phrase? King movies have such a bad reputation that some of his more literary works would rather not use his name to promote the film. Why
