Are MoT test certificates which have recently expired eligible for the scheme?
MoT test certificates on old vehicles are eligible provided they have expired no more than 14 days from the order date of the new vehicle. In such cases, the dealer will need to arrange collection of the old vehicle (as it could not be driven on the public highway) and satisfy themselves that the paperwork and the vehicle match and are in order. The Car Scrappage Team would also like to thank Neil Broome who posted the following details on this site yesterday; – “Further to my note on May 7th, I have recently received a reply to an e-mail I sent to the Department of Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform. The BERR replied as follows: “There has been some confusion in regards to SORN, so this aspect has been removed from the scheme to prevent further problems. All vehicles using the scheme must be roadworthy, with a MoT valid within 14 days of the ordering of the new vehicle. (Some dealerships may allow some leeway.)
