Are Mormon bishops trained in counseling, psychology, or theology?
As Kim’s answer states, our bishops are not trained by the Church to be psychologists. However, they are quite capable of and do refer members to competent psychological counselors when they feel that it is warranted. As for the question of theological training, we get that throughout our lives as members. We get training in the doctrines and teaching of the church every Sunday, starting in our earliest childhood. Those of us who grow up in the church will also attend our version of seminary. This means that during our high school years we will attend additional classes five days a week on the Churches doctrines and history. In places with high concentrations of Latter-day Saints, They will usually be able to arrange for the students to get a period out of their school schedules to go to a nearby church-own building to take these classes. In places where there are not enough members to justify this, then the kids will take the classes either before or after school. For the college age
