Are moral values relative or absolute?

Ahh good old absolutism vs. relativism. I’m a moral relativist. I believe that it is very dangerous and arbitrary to set absolute moral standards, because there are always exceptions, different perspectives, and other interpretations. On the other hand, there are general things that seem to be universally wrong: rape, torture, etc. We had a discussion about this in my philosophy and ethics class where we tried to think of a single moral “rule” that everyone in the world would agree with. We couldn’t. I’m not saying moral relativism is the “correct” answer, it’s just the direction that I happen to lean in. A strong case can also be made for moral absolutism.
