Are modern heroes similarly concerned with proving themselves honorable like he heroes in the Iliad?

Real Life Heroes are not Modern Heroes as opposed to Ancient, fictional or mythological heroes, first of all. Second, to answer the question you meant to ask: I believe that most real heroes are accidental. Nobody becomes a hero by choice. Heroes are simply people who, through coincidence or being in the right place at the right time, achieve exorbitant fame for whatever it is that they do. Mother Teresa was just a woman who had a lot of faith and did a lot of good in line with her faith and her beliefs. Most modern heroes in the real world are merely people who had the guts to dedicate their life to exercising their will on the world, managed to do it successfully, and got famous enough while doing it that somebody recognized them for it. That’s it. The hero could be a great humanitarian, a man of wisdom, an athlete or a scientist. The hero might even be somebody who made a great youtube video about slipping on a pile of dog crap. But it’s all about doing what you want and succeeding.
