Are Modems Supposed To Work In Virtual Pc?

Are modem supposed to work; if so, how are they supposed to be configured? I have tried the following configuration with limited success: Host OS – Win XP Pro real driver for an Actiontec PCI modem Virtual PC 2004 virtual COM2 pointed at the real COM port of the modem wait for modem – toggled both ways Guest OS – Win 98 SE standard modem driver pointed at COM2 Using HyperTerminal, the first time I try to dial, it work; but, then not again until the physical computer has been reset. The error is either a “Can’t open port” or a “Disconnected” immediately upon clicking the dial button. Just to see what would happen, I tried using a Hayes Optima on a server with a NASI port via Novell Client on the Guest OS — exact same result; it only works once. BTW: LPT capture works flawlessly. My next attempt will be with an external modem on one of the physical ports. There don’t seem to be many people trying to use modems — 1 as yet unsolved prior post in this group (not in external search engines
