I agree with “elise_flowerchild.” In as much as Consumer Reports has gotten to be a bible for a lot of consumers, there is no substitute for personally test driving the car. In general, the highest rated cars are from Honda, Toyota, Nissan and their luxury brands namely Acura, Lexus and Infinity. Usually, I am more inclined to discourage people from buying the American brands mainly because their reliability history although very good initially tend to decline in the succeeding years. There are better buys out there if the Eclipse does not meet your expectations. The Mini Cooper has a very good reliability history and is more spacious than the Eclipse. It is more fun to drive as well. Fuel economy is very good, much better than the Eclipse 4 cylinder. And if the manufacturer takes the front seat in your decision to buy a car, the Mini Cooper is made by BMW.
