Are militias sexist organizations?
Legally speaking, the militia is a sexist construct. Title 10: Section 311 of the United States Code states: The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard. However, in practice this rule of law is innocently ignored. Title 10 of the U.S. Code clearly should be updated to reflect modern sensibilities. This has not yet been accomplished. Similarly, the age restrictions of Title 10 are usually ignored. When Title 10 was written, 45 was a very advanced age. In the current century, 45 year olds are just getting started in life! The modern militia is open to Americans of all colors, races, sexes, ages, and abilities. Everyone has something to contribute.
