If your home state of record is Virginia, you are responsible for your personal property taxes in Virginia. If your spouse or another person who is not military is on the vehicle title with you, you are no longer exempt from personal property tax. If you lease a vehicle you are not exempt from personal property tax, regardless of where you claim your home state of residence.For exemption, you must file a recent copy of your LES at the Commissioner Of The Revenue Office each year.
