Are military families more prone to domestic violence than civilian families?
There’s been an ongoing debate about that. The debate has been whether there’s more that exists in the military community compared to the civilian community, and whether the increase has been greater in the military community, and, also, what that increase is [caused] by. As a comparative analysis, the debate has been whether the [statistical] difference is anywhere from two times as much to five times as much greater in the military community. Those numbers are based on several different studies. So there’s been wide debate on whether there’s two or five times more. As a researcher in this area, what’s your opinion? What we’re concerned about is the level of violence, or the severity of violence. Our records indicate that the victims we deal with have anywhere from mid-level to severe experiences.
