Are middle-class people in any way uniquely underserved by the mental health system?

Hi Alison, Let me go out on a limb by saying that YES, middle class people – and their children – are uniquely underserved by the mental health system. My argument here would be that some families make enough money that they do not qualify for public benefits – to include insurance related to mental health, as an example – yet not enough money to be able to afford market-rate insurance through, as another example, an employer. So, I suppose the answer depends on what you consider to be “middle class.” If you are interested in researching a statewide advocacy effort relating to early childhood healthcare and education in Ohio – which, pertaining to insurance in particular, included mental health – feel free to visit the website below. And, if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer what I can – just email me at tscheetz[at]businessvolunteers[dot]org. Best of luck with your research!
