Are mentors important in the business world?
Mentors have played an all-important role for me as I moved from housewife to the career path I chose. I observed several successful people and patterned my responses to challenges after their behavior. I looked for people with traits I admired as well as traits that fit my personality. What advice would you give someone to get ahead in the business world? Get to work early and stay late. Use your time well in getting to know all you can about the business you are in. Learn from others and always look for opportunities to help others climb the ladder with you. You can never give enough away that you don’t receive more back. Don’t battle every issue. I have a saying, “Don’t die on a six-inch cross. If the issue isn’t at least a 12-footer, leave it alone.” As an employer, what are some things you frown upon? Being late, particularly not calling to let me know you are going to be late. Unprofessional (low cut tops, too short a skirt, blue jeans, etc.) dress. Shoes that flop when you walk.
