Are men afraid of losing freedom or sense of self when they get married?

I think that men and women both sometimes have this fear and for good reason. When two people make a commitment to spend their lives together it is a fact that things are going to change. Many of the changes will be good. There will also be some compromises. What they previously each took for granted as what is “normal” may be a different “normal” than the person they are marrying expects. This can be something as simple as when to open the Christmas gifts or it can be something huge. It is important to spend time getting to know each other and deal with lots of this before getting married so that they will be able to make good decisions. The more they know what to expect the less fearful they are, as well.
