Are memory foam mattresses really better than traditional mattresses?
If you get one, make sure you get a good one. And don’t buy one of the less expensive “toppers” unless you KNOW the manufacturer is reputable (check the internet for ratings before buying). I bought a memory mattress topper at a big box membership store, and even though I aired it out for 2 weeks, the strange odor from the foam never came out. I even tried a product called “Smells B Gone” on it, and no dice. I was lucky that the store took it back, even though I had taken it out of it’s vacuum pack. The person at the store said “we have to take these back all the time because of the smell”. So, be sure you buy a good brand like Tempur-Pedic or one that has been around a long time. You’ll pay more, but it will be worth it. As far as comfort, I liked the feel of it but didn’t have it long enough to rate it long term.
Generally speaking memory foam mattresses are state of the art sleeping technology. From a durability standpoint they may be some of the best beds on the market today. However memory foam mattresses are not for everyone. You would need to test rest lots of various models and styles to determine if it is really better than a traditional mattress for you because in the end, that is the only thing that matters.
No. I use a memory foam mattress occasionally at my in-laws. I find it uncomfortable. I find it horribly hot on my back. I get backache from it and never ever get a good night’s sleep. Heaven knows why they bought it. We tried memory foam pillows at our house and went straight back to standard pillows. I’d say don’t waste your money on memory foam.
