School Board chair Lorie Shekailo made this clear at the start of Monday’s meeting. Martin County taxpayers should be encouraged by this pleasant, surprising turn of events. For the record, “business as usual” in 2009 meant a steady stream of public speakers railing against Schools Superintendent Nancy Kline and other district employees. The criticisms often veered away from professional issues to personal attacks. This verbal deluge continued meeting after meeting. However, despite the hostility and inappropriateness of many of the speakers’ remarks, Shekailo never challenged them to redirect their comments to school-related issues.
