Are many people affected by problems with cosmetics?
It wasn’t until we began writing this book that we realised most everyone we knew had some sort of problem, at some time in their lives, with a cosmetic or a toiletry product. Every time we mentioned to friends or relatives that we were writing this book, they would tell us their story, be it about face cream that caused soreness, eye-shadow that caused red and flaking eyelids, shampoo that caused dandruff, shaving soap that caused irritation or perfume that caused breathlessness. The problems seemed so numerous that we can only guess that the number of people affected by a product at any one time must be colossal.
