Are low calorie diets safe?

– Yes – there are now over 30 years of research and all over Europe every hospital obesity department uses VLCD diets. Studies by the Committee on Medical Aspects of Health and Nutrition (COMA) in the UK and European Union have highlighted their success. However, NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) have recommended that VLCD’s (very low calorie diets) are not used for more than 12 weeks, even if medically monitored. W8 Programmes only have a small part which is a VLCD which lasts for only three weeks, the rest of our programmes act as a LCD (Low Calorie Diet) or a VLCD with food. All W8 Programmes have food added, every day or every 4th week, so they are different to the conventional VLCDs available.
