Are Little League bats allowed in Babe Ruth?
The short answer is probably not. Most LL bats are small and light weight. The so-called “drop” of a bat is the difference between the bat’s length in inches and weight in ounces. For example, a 30″ bat that weighs 20 oz has a drop of 10. Common Little League bats have drops of 8 to 12. In addition, LL bats can be no more than 2 1/4″ in diameter. In BR, batters are allowed to use “big barrel” bats with diameters up to 2 5/8″. In the BR prep and National leagues, the drop can be NO MORE than 8.5. In the AL, the drop can be no more than 3. For the AL, we recommend buying bats labeled as BESR certified for use in high school and college. Remember also that there is no rule against using a BESR certified bat (-3) in the NL and Prep leagues. However, it is not good for the player to swing a bat that is too heavy, so a transition bat is normally needed for these players. Back to Top Revised: August 04, 2005 .
