Are liberals really to blame for all Americas morality issues?
That’s one way to look at it, but blaming liberal ideas for America’s alleged “Morality Issues” discounts one major fact: “Morality Issues”, for the most part, only exist where people choose to see them. Take, for instance, the “Issue” of gay marriage. Were it not for Conservative interests trying to paint it as a moral issue, no one would be hurt, no one would care, and there would be NO issue. In that sense, the ones to blame for “Morality Issues” are not the liberals, but rather those conservative enough to create America’s “Morality Issues” by fighting essentially harmless changes. Granted, there are some issues that *Should* be issues, war, poverty, and genocide, for instance. But it’s not exactly reasonable to blame any political camp for those problems, because when it comes to genuine issues like that, the concern and outrage tends to reach across party lines. For the most part, though, “Moral Issue” is usually just a sanitized way of saying something along the lines of “My God
Actually, I think the fault lies with Conservatives (and I’m Conservative). To begin with, Conservatives push abstinence on teenagers instead of birth control. They feel that birth control is tacit permission to have sex. Don’t they remember what it was like to be a teenager with raging hormones coming out of your ears? It is almost impossible to control those urges. They are biological imperatives. It is better to deal with the reality of the situation than try to ignore it. Then there is nudity. I love being on a European beach and watch all of the local women put their tops on when the Americans show up. Not because of morality but because the Americans gawk. If nudity were allowed to be more widespread in America it would be less of an issue. But Americans make it “forbidden” which raises the titulation factor which makes it an issue. While I’ve never touched a joint in my life, this pot prohibition reminds me of alcohol prohibition in the 30’s. They should legalize and tax it and
Yeah, liberals MADE that guy play footsies in Minnesota. And liberals MADE that guy from Florida hit on under-aged male pages. And liberals PUT the republican names in the DC Madam’s black book. Neo-cons are such idiots. There has ALWAYS been a liberal/conservative tension. Liberals aren’t your enemies, Dr. Brainstein, terrorist are. There is quite a long list before you get to Liberals.
I’m not sure if the question implies that liberals are morally bankrupt. There are certainly moral liberals just as there are moral conservatives. I think the morality shift should be discussed in the context of influential voices. Americans probably spend a good portion of their time in front a television or at the movies. Given the amount of attention we pay to the entertainment industry, it wouldn’t be far fetched to say that Hollywood has some degree of influence over the greater population. Now, just based on a historical media coverage on people of the entertainment industry, it’s probably safe to say that the lifestyles of the people involved with television and movies aren’t quite the model of morality. I don’t think anyone would disagree that most of Hollywood has a liberal view. I can’t say that the two are related. But a contributing factor to America’s morality (decline) can partly be attributed to the large influence from a relatively small group with questionable ethics.
