Are letters of recommendation required?
Yes, two letters of recommendation are required for completion of the Kenan Fellow application. One person must be the applicant’s principal and the other may be a school superintendent, administrator, colleague, or community leader. Applicants will be asked to list names, titles, email addresses and phone numbers of two people from whom they wish to request a letter of recommendation. Those individuals will then receive emailed instructions from the Kenan Fellows staff about submitting an online recommendation. Recommendations must be submitted by the application closing date, January 30, 2009, in order for the application to be considered.
Letters are required for the Ph.D. program admissions. For the M.S., they are highly recommended, and if you are applying for an assistantship we require three recommendation letters. In all cases, letters are an excellent addition to your application materials. Ask your work supervisors or former professors to write letters of recommendation on your behalf and send them directly to the department. Have them indicate that the letter is in support of your application for admission. There is no specific form that they must complete for the recommendation, but you may use the ICS Graduate Assistantship Evaluation Form. Those letters should be sent to the ICS Graduate Chair (see address at the bottom of this page).
