Are LED bulbs designed to function with dimmers?
No. Standard LED bulbs are not designed to function with dimmers. A traditional dimmer reduces the overall voltage sent to the light fixture. LED’s operate on DC current. Some LED lamps are designed to function with dimmers, however those dimmers must be specifically designed to reduce the current delivered to the LED bulb rather than reduce the voltage. LED bulbs that are installed with traditional dimmers will likely burnout the LED lamp due to voltage spikes that the LED light is not designed to take. Therefore DO NOT INSTALL LED BULBS WITH DIMMERS unless the LED/dimmer is confirmed to be compatible. InkMyFunds is not responsible for damage to the LED bulb or dimmer due to improper use. New LED lamps will be introduced in the coming year with dimmer capability. • Which LED light should I select for my application?
