Are leaching and runoff different between quick- and slow-release fertilizers?

The results of our research suggest two things: 1) St. Augustinegrass can accumulate 1 lb of N per 1,000 sq ft without negative N leaching impact when IFAS recommendations are followed (Sartain, 2007), and 2) the form of N applied at the 1 lb per 1,000 sq ft rate does not matter. Due to turf’s ability to filter nutrients, if any fertilizer is applied at the correct rates and in the correct manner, neither will result in much leaching or runoff—the results will differ very little (Park, 2006).
