Are lame broilers generally more pessimistic?
A ‘cognitive bias’ task will be developed to establish whether lame broilers show evidence of pessimistic judgment biases indicative of negative feelings, i.e. is their glass half empty as opposed to half full? All of the above projects will involve experience developing novel cognitive tasks for broiler chickens. You will receive training in the ethical issues surrounding animal research, experimental design, statistical analysis and the presentation of your findings. Please note that since I currently have no funding available for graduate students these projects are only open to self-funding students. Projects will fall under fee band 2a (i.e. £6545 for next year) to help cover the purchase and husbandry costs of the animals involved. For further details of any of the above projects please contact me (Melissa.Bateson@ncl.ac.uk).
