Are Labrador x Golden Retriver normally good at stopping intruders?
I’ve had yellow labs most of my life, and my experience is similar to yours. Normally calm warm loving and attentive creatures who welcome strangers and young children w/ a big wet “kiss” (i’ve even taken them on the subway in NYC and the sit quietly amidst the chaos) these divine animals can go Cujo on you in an instant. My dogs never encountered a burgler, but they went off twice when an electrician and a plumber came to our (glass) door. Not only did they bark ferociously but the hair stood back and they bared their teeth. The vendors were scared s*less and took several steps back from the door. We were more interested in this amazing new behavior and watched for a couple of minutes before calming the dogs down and locking them in the bedroom so the men could do their work. Since then, we’ve never felt safer.
