Are Judge Calabria’s ads nonpartisan?

0

This morning on WPTF I heard the voice of Tom Fetzer beginning what sounded like a routine political ad. I was surprised to hear that it was a call by the head of the North Carolina Republican Party for all conservatives across the state to support Court of Appeals Judge Ann Marie Calabria. It’s my understanding that all of the appellate judicial candidates are taking public financing. And all of the races are nonpartisan. So it’s strange that Calabria’s campaign would pay for an ad featuring Fetzer, who is a partisan figure in the state. I don’t know if this violates any campaign regulations, but it certainly undermines the spirit of the rules governing judicial races.
