Are Iranian people Aryan, just like the German people?
Technically Iranian people are Aryans and Germans are not. Aryan was the self designation of the ancient Indo-Aryan (north Indians) and Iranian (Persians and Pashtuns) people. Only this ancient tribe of the Indo-Europeans called themselves this. Iranians, Indo-Aryans, and Afghans are related to Germans and most other Europeans (all except Finns, Hungarians, Estonians, and Basques). So yes, if you go far back enough you do share a bloodline with the Germans. In the past linguists thought that Sanskrit was the language closest to Proto-Indo-European, the mother language of the ancestors to all Indo-Europeans. Since the Sanskrit speakers (ancient northern Indians) called themselves Aryans the linguists assumed the proto-Indo-Europeans also called themselves Aryans. That is why Hitler used the term Aryan, he thought that was the name of his orignal ancestors.
