Are insulated IGLU dock levellers an alternative for refrigerated applications?
The front edge of a standard (IGLU) dock leveller overlaps the sectional door on the outer side. In the summertime, this outer front edge will be subject to intensive sun exposure. The heat will be conducted through the deck plate of the dock leveller which acts like a heater plate inside the warehouse. Temperatures of up to 50C have been measured at the dock leveller platform inside the warehouse. On the other hand, the effect of cold conduction in heated warehouses is much lower. For this reason the insulated IGLU dock levellers are not recommended at refrigerated applications. Summary The insulated IGLU dock levellers are an economically interesting alternative for heated warehouses as the insulation effectiveness is much better than no insulation at all or only insulation between the structural beams of the dock leveller platform. The IGLU design does not require any modifications to the standard concrete pit which has a positive effect on the required investment.
