Are increased vaginal secretions at 31 weeks normal?
Probably. There is a normal increase in vaginal secretions during pregnancy. Especially toward the end of pregnancy, many women report the “wet underwear syndrome” and resort to wearing minipads. A couple of things to be aware of, however: A gush of fluid or continuous leaking from the vagina should always be reported to your doctor or midwife to rule out premature rupture of the membranes (your water breaking). Also, because normal pregnancy changes the chemistry of the vagina, there is an increased rate of vaginal infections. So if there is any itching, burning, foul odor or anything else unusual associated with the discharge, check it out with your caregiver ASAP.
