Are immersion studies open to Francophones who wish to improve their English?
No. Officially, immersion studies exist in French and is offered only to students whose mother tongue is not French. However, all Francophone students who wish to register in English-as-a-Second-Language or immersion courses in English can do so. It is also possible for Francophone students who wish to improve their English as a second language skills to take disciplinary courses (regular courses in their program of study) in English or to incorporate a second-language minor into their program of study. The University of Ottawa is bilingual, and according to its bilingualism policy, students can choose to study in French or English in most programs and to complete assignments and write exams in French or English in all courses (with a few exceptions), regardless of the language of instruction in the class.
