Are hydrogen fuel cells the way of the future for cars?
According to Lienkamp, this EU-sponsored project could mark the beginning of the hydrogen economy. “If we want this technology to penetrate the market with mass-produced vehicles and a network of filling stations, we need the widespread acceptance of political players and the business community. We aim to improve acceptance by building the necessary infrastructure, providing vehicles with fuel-cell power systems and developing basic engineering standards and conventions for this new technology.” The project consortium has created a task force, staffed by representatives of the automotive industry, technology manufacturers, TÜV (a German safety standards organization) and other experts. The task force will draw on its experience to develop a set of standards for constructing and operating hydrogen filling stations. Their goal is to simplify the process of planning and licensing future hydrogen filling stations. And while the vision of Zero Regio a zero-emissions region may not be within
