Are hunting and fishing mainly Southern rural USA or all over?
Hunting is not too prevalent in the area in which I live, though it is still popular in New Jersey, but much less so than many other states. You start to get further up north to Northern New Jersey and upstate New York, and suddenly, two states that are not considered Southern, conservative, or rural have big hunting cultures. I don’t know about the counties in upstate NY, but I would say in NJ this is most popular in Sussex, Hunterdon, Warren, etc. The NYC metropolitan area in New Jersey is already overdeveloped and development is only on the increase, so you will see more and more animals, such as wild turkeys and most prevalently, deer, wander around suburban roads, as their homes and forestland is swept away. This can lead to death or injury for the people involved, the animals, damage to the car etc. A few years back there was an organized black bear hunt in NJ for the purposes of thinning out their numbers.
