Are humans more likely to survive a nuclear winter or global warming?
There is no way of accurately predicting the outcome of either event. There are many variables involved that affect each other, making even the most complex computer programs struggle to predict the possible outcomes. But perhaps humans would be more likely to survive global warming because we are adaptive. As global warming happens more slowly we might be able to compensate for it and adapt to it. Increased carbon dioxide levels and a warmer climate may mean that plants grow more prolifically. So although there would be a changing coastline and different weather conditions, we may find that food is more available (in certain parts of the world anyway) and that survival is possible. A nuclear winter would occur over a period of just years, making it less likely we could find ways to adapt and survive in time. Dust would block out light in a nuclear winter, and if that continued for long enough for all the plants to die, humans would soon perish.
