Are house numbers used just to make life difficult?
It certainly seems that way from the perspective of repair. Give me industry standard numbers anyday. However, house numbers are a fact of life. The house number is what you need to order a replacement from the original manufacturer of the equipment but that may not always be desirable due to the likely high cost and possible difficulty in locating a suitable distributor that carries the manufacturer’s replacement parts. As noted in the section: “Parts information and cross references”, a Master Selection Guide like NTE may be able to give you some idea of the specifications even if you don’t want to use their generic replacement semiconductors. Their web sites have (or should have in the future) some amount of cross reference information for industry standard and house numbers.
